The building is served by a linear core
to the eastern elevation with a recessed 3 metre wide intermediate
zone which connects the main office space to the core. In contrast
to the more usual central core floorplate, this layout maximises the
clear useable floor area of a typical floor (4,902 square feet - 455.4
square metres) with highly efficient, light and modern office accommodation.
The ‘duality’ of Vitro’s site - the two 'fronts’
of Fenchurch Street and the station plaza - are expressed in the
elevational treatment. Both of these elevations are treated equally;
there is no perceived ‘front and back’. This is emphasised
by the route through the galleried entrance at ground floor and
the extensive use of a modulated glass façade, which physically
and visually connects the ‘street’ to the ‘plaza’.
Vitro has been constructed using the highest quality of materials
to provide an office building, striking in design but without compromising
occupiers’ demands for highly flexible, useable office accommodation. |
